Ross Promotes NYT Notable Author Shelley Fraser Mickle’s New Novel, The Occupation of Eliza Goode

July 24, 2013 –

From award-winning New York Times Notable author Shelley Fraser Mickle comes this fall a new novel, The Occupation of Eliza Goode, a mystery about two modern-day women unraveling a family secret as they follow a trail of letters left by a Civil War prostitute.

The result of seven years of research and writing, Mickle’s new novel beautifully blends the stories of two women cousins’ quest for a family and personal truth several summers after 9/11 and the journey of Eliza Goode, a young courtesan who flees New Orleans and a dead-end future at the start of the Civil War. Eliza makes her way through slave quarters, a Confederate camp, and battles, and she takes on several identities, from camp-follower prostitute, to laundress, nurse and caregiver, before a defining moment frees her from her past.

Already receiving critical praise, The Occupation of Eliza Goode is a stunning novel from noted American writer Mickle, a 2014 nominee for inclusion in the Florida Women’s Hall of Fame, an honor bestowed on Floridians including legendary authors Zora Neale Hurston and Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings.

Eliza Goode will be released in print by Virginia Beach-based Koehler Books on November 1, 2013. It will be available for pre-order online at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Books-A-Million.
