Ross and ABC News Chief Correspondent Byron Pitts co-host Hall of Fame

ABC News anchor and chief correspondent Byron Pitts, retired WAVY-TV 10 photographer James Wright, and Hampton Roads Black Media Professionals President Cheryl Ross shared the stage at the Hampton Roads Black Media Professionals’ Hall of Fame ceremony (February 16, 2013).

The inaugural event recognized six Hampton Roads media luminaries who broke barriers and/or advanced the cause of diversity in newsrooms and media coverage. Pitts, a former HRBMP president, emceed the ceremony and served as co-host with Cheryl Ross.

The event, held at the Half Moone Cruise & Celebration Center in downtown Norfolk, honored Wright; WTKR-NewsChannel3 anchor Barbara Ciara; retired Virginian-Pilot public editor Marvin Lake; Norfolk State University professor emeritus Dr. Grady James; New Journal and Guide publisher Brenda Andrews; and Delceno Miles of The Miles Agency. Money raised from the Hall of Fame funded college scholarships for students pursuing communications studies.
